A little late yes but here is what the easymodern family was up to last weekend.
Last weekend the easymodern family checked out Tildon regional park. This well known regional park located just outside Berkley CA, is one of three oldest parks in the East Bay regional park system. At over 2,000 acres the park has a bounty of attractions and activities that would suite anybody including: hiking trails, swimming beaches around beautiful Lake Anza, a botanical garden, merry- go- round, a little farm, a train, a golf course… , I didn’t even mention the breath taking views of SF. While we only had one Sunday afternoon you could easily spend your whole weekend at this ‘jewel of the East Bay regional park system park system’.
Driving in we couldn’t help but notice the scenery, even this easymodern kids were impressed with this view of SF, Marin country and Richmond.
Our first stop was the little farm. Complete with cows, sheep, chickens and goats the little farm offered a close up look at some common farm animals. Its small, but worth the stop, make sure to bring lettuce or celery to feed to the animals.
Next was the annual Tildon park fungal fair a celebration of mushrooms, complete with displays of the deadly Death Cap mushroom and other less poisonous varieties. There were also activities for the kids including making mushrooms out of clay and churning mushroom ice cream, which doesn’t sound very appetizing but was actually tasty. After the fun of the Fungal fair we headed on over to the Tildon park railroad.
The Tildon park railway is a 15 gauge steam railway located inside the park and is essentially a hobby gone crazy. It started out in the backyard of a local mechanical engineer and was moved to the park when it out grew his space, and has been a popular attraction ever since. The railway has its own Redwood Valley Railway station where for $4.00 park-goers can take a scenic ride though the redwoods. The cars are just the right size for the littles the adults can feel a bit cramped but squeeze in the ride is well worth it.
We had a great afternoon at Tildon regional park and can’t wait to come back!
